In my last post I spoke about being present in the moment. What do I mean?

What do you think about when you make a cup of tea or coffee? When your driving?

Tonight’s dinner? Work? Money in the bank? An Argument?  All sorts right, it could be anything! But more often than not it could be a stressful situation or even traumatic events from the past.  The reason being our mind has subconsciously learnt how to do your everyday tasks. Mopping, hoovering, washing the dishes etc… Whilst our subconscious knows how to automatically carry out these tasks without needing to use a thought process we automatically think of something else to keep the mind occupied. If you’re having positive thoughts well that’s great! However, more often than not people have a voice chewing their ear off with negativity. In today’s day and era we have all sorts of issues that can cause us stress.Thousand’s of years ago the only stress humans had was to to eat or be eaten. Hence the Fight or Flight stimulation in the body with an adrenaline rush.  It was only the other day I saw a man shouting “Shut up you stupid machine” to a cash point. It really emphasised my point.  There’s a lot of negativity and issues, you only need to turn on the news to see constant devastation, death, war, accidents happening in the world, and if you are constantly watching these, well that’s partly why you could be getting these thoughts. Ever heard of Negativity breeds Negativity?


If you’re one of these people with  negative thoughts pestering you and want to try and eradicate or eliminate some of these a good way is to be present in the moment. We spend all our time worrying about the past and the future, when in fact all that can cause us harm is the present moment! Unless your about to be eaten by a lion or something like that you have no reason to put any stress on your mind and body. By being present, you are basically trying to keep your mind occupied through thoroughly thinking through each action at a time.  So next time you make a cup of tea, think about walking to the cupboard, taking the cup, filling the kettle with water etc…It will not allow the brain to process any other thoughts other than the ones in the moment and through this process you can end up eradicating those negative thoughts. It’s not something that happens over night and requires practice (strengthen the Neurological pathways) ,but, the more you do it the better you get at it!

Although this is may not be something for you, I’m sure more than one of your friends and family will be affected by some sort of mental health issues.

The stats don’t lie! 1 in 4 people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. And around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Often people don’t know they suffer from these or simply don’t know how to treat them. Imagine constantly having negative thoughts running through your mind!

The reason I speak about mindset is because I believe a healthy mind equals a healthy body.  Self improvement comes from with in the mind and a clouded and stressed mindset will only hinder your journey.
